Projects

We co-create yearly projects with people in response to local social, cultural, and political issues, needs and desires. Projects are often workshop-based in community settings and will be multidisciplinary. We work in partnership with arts and non-arts organisations, sharing resources and expertise.

Projects in 2022

Winter Sparks

Our project in 2022 was a participatory arts project focused sharing the joy of creativity, building relationships, and embedding Fio in our local communities in Riverside. We partnered with Women Connect First and Now In A Minute Media and delivered weekly arts sessions in Riverside Warehouse for a group of 11-16-year-old Muslim girls. We worked with a powerhouse team of Wales-based Muslim artists who facilitated sessions sharing their unique skillsets. From photography to journalism, poetry to illustration and more, the group decided they would like to create a Zine sharing their creative work. Key themes were identity, belonging, and wellbeing. We published the trilingual Zine in English, Welsh and Arabic, as these were the languages that were most important to the group. We worked with the Urdd who facilitated Welsh language workshops, and also worked with local businesses Aubergine Café and Grow Cardiff, showcasing them in the Zine.

We published the Zine with Lucent Dreaming Publishers, and hand delivered 400 copies through letterboxes in Riverside, sharing joy, creativity, recipes and sparking lots of joyous conversations!

What participants said about the project:

“The Zine makes me feel happy and proud that I participated”

“It has changed me because I was able to share my ideas in a safe place and also do something I like”

“It has influenced me to take part in more projects at school”
